Marog

Marog

Well known traditional food, cooked and used like spinach. Arrow shaped leaves are thicker than those of spinach. Can be picked over a long period, in fact the more that is picked the more is produced. Usually used at the small seedling stage. An excellent hot, dry weather substitute for spinach.

The young leaves of marog are considered very nutritious. For the best flavour, eat the tender tops when they are about 25cm tall, by cutting them off with scissors and then leaving them to re-grow. The young leaves have a mild flavour and can be eaten raw, cooked like spinach, or added to soups, stews etc.
