A member of the Brassica (Cabbage) family, also known as canola. Rape can be harvested and cooked like any other garden greens, they have large leaves with hardly and stem so they cook quicker.
The rape plant is part of the kale, turnip and broccoli family and is mainly grown for its seeds, However, the leaves are bitter and peppery and wonderful to cook with. Rape leaves cooked with various other ingredients are a key part of African cooking.
